It feels like the empire is obviously more complicated/evil than it seemed on the surface initially, just based on the way Sibylle wasn't even surprised by what Lynn reported. and the way she told Lynn to ignore it felt like she knew from experience that fighting it/trying to stop it would only end badly. Sibylle seems extremely jaded but I think neither of them are very trusting and thus don't show their real feelings. felt like both of them were beaten down by the empire and hide theirfeelings
